As a result of the collaboration between the project partners the University of Amsterdam and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, we are pleased to announce the first version of the in-depth profiles of 12 Prototypes of Change.
PREFIGURE Prototyes of Change are social, political, and economic practices aimed at fostering innovation, supporting affordable housing renovation, and tackling energy poverty.
We live in a time when ‘access to affordable housing has become an escalating challenge’, ‘rising inflation and energy costs are deepening social vulnerability’, and ‘the financialisation of both energy and housing systems is reinforcing the link between energy and housing vulnerability’.
‘These prototypes whether top-down or bottom-up, challenge conventional, path-dependent approaches and explore new ways to address inequalities in the Energy-Housing Nexus’.
The 13 prototypes identified so far by the PREFIGURE consortium are the following:

- Christiania, in Copenhagen (DK)
- CommonEN, in Ioannina (GR)
